35 Thoughts About The Vampire Lestat Episode 3

The Vampire Lestat episode 3 “Toronto” may be one of the strongest episodes in the entire Immortal Universe so far. Seeing Lestat relive the trauma of Magnus’ brutal “gift” and abandonment was difficult to watch, but fascinating.

And then there was Nicki.

Watching Lestat revisit one of his greatest loves through the lens of regret and guilt was heartbreaking. Meanwhile, Louis finally got the chance to make Bruce answer for what he did to Claudia, delivering one of the most satisfying acts of revenge in the franchise.

The Great Conversion surfaced again, but the show continues to keep its cards close to the chest. For now, the larger mystery remains in the background while Lestat continues his painful reckoning with the muses who shaped him.

And I had a lot of thoughts.

One of my favorite moments in the episode was Lestat emotionally destroying Daniel and then immediately revealing that he had been manipulating him the entire time. Daniel deserved it. He was being a prick. Anyway, let’s get into the rest of my thoughts:

1. It’s kind of amazing how Sam Reid never trips on these mountains of dialog they give him. Give the man all his flowers.
2. Interesting that vamps can survive decapitation for a limited time. That’s probably going to come up again since it’s been mentioned a couple of times now.
3. I would like a permanent loop of these opening credits thanks.
4. Daniel, stop bullying Lestat about his previous stutter. WTF dude?
5. I could watch these two spar for an entire episode.
6. Performative vampire – 2. Performance journalist- 0.
7. Louis rollin up on a mission. This is gonna be so satisfying.
8. When Louis channels that deep melancholy into targeted rage he turns killing into an art. A fearsome death ballet.
9. It’s giving Sinners vibes and I’m not mad about it.
10. Lestat thinks the Great Conversion is stupid but Gabriella clearly doesn’t. Both know more than they’re saying.
11. Dan has tried this antagonistic style of questioning so often you’d think he’d be better at it by now.
12. Paris. Nicki. OOF this is gonna hurt.
13. Lestat still doesn’t want to talk about Nicki. Too soon.
14. Interesting way for Gabriella to create a distraction. Did she do it to get Dan to stop interrogating Lestat? Or because she doesn’t want to hear Lestat talk about Nicki?
15. Magnus is a folklore vampire fever dream. They absolutely nailed his look and styling. He looks like something that would drag you into a dark tower and haunt your nightmares for generations.
16. Lestat’s song about his conversion is surprisingly wistful and sweet considering the circumstances.

18. Didn’t see that coming did you, Danny? If only you knew how close Mom really is…
19. Gabriella is so emotionally unavailable it’s almost impressive. I don’t know if I hate her or want to be her. Maybe both.

21. Nicki wasn’t strong enough for immortality.
22. That took a turn.
23. Emmy for Sam Reid immediately thanks.
24. Dan enjoyed that a little too much. Sir, seek help.
25. LMAO Performative vampire-3. Performative journalist- still 0.
26. Louis with murder on his mind is the best Louis.
27. Don’t make it quick Louis. Make him suffer.
28. Magnus is so deliciously creepy I love it.
29. GET CLAUDIA’S NAME FOR LOUIS OUT OF YOUR MOUTH BRUCE!
30. Justice. Justice for Claudia.

Seeing how completely Nicki unraveled after being turned raises uncomfortable questions about the Great Conversion. If immortality shattered someone as brilliant and sensitive as Nicki, what happens when vampires start turning humans indiscriminately? How many broken, unstable immortals are already walking among us?

The Vampire Lestat Episode 4 “The Devils Road”

I hate it that the season is almost halfway over. I am BEGGING AMC to give us more episodes pe I hate that we’re almost halfway through the season already. AMC, I’m begging you, give these shows more episodes.

Next week we head down “The Devil’s Road.” Book readers know exactly why that title should make everyone nervous.
