There’s just one episode left of The Testaments this season, and the action really started ramping up in The Testaments episode 9, “Marat Sade”.
In this episode Becka’s father was finally held accountable, but not in the way anyone expected. The show has veered so far from the book at this point it’s hard to know how much of the original story they will end up keeping, but I’m locked in for the ride.
It’s always difficult for the showrunners of a new show to create the world, introduce the characters, and create a compelling enough story to carry audiences through. But these showrunners had a huge advantage because the world of Gilead was already fully formed in The Handmaid’s Tale.
So, it was a little surprising to me that it took them this long to show any of the true violence we’ve come to know lies just below the veneer of decorum that coats Gilead society. It was worth the wait.
23 Thoughts I Had Watching The Testaments Episode 9

I was surprised that Daisy told the aunts that she had gotten her period. But that was definitely not the biggest surprise in this episode. Let’s get into it:
- Daisy, girl…there’s no turning back now.
- Jealous much Becka?
- Daisy’s one of the cool girls now. Poor Shu.
- Yeah, nothing says “you’re a woman now” like making her a pinafore…
- Ew. Going to see the pedo dentist seems to be a rite of passage.
- Daisy is ready to do violence to protect the girls.
- THAT’S OUR GIRL! Fuck yeah Daisy!
- Aunt Lydia knows what’s up. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she knows who Daisy really is.
- Panic attack? Relatable.
- Nothing good can come from this man showing up.
- Someone is in trouble…someone is in trouble…
- Becka, you scored the best husband, you need to chill.
- Typical pedo. Blame the victims.
- Shu with a Gilead zinger.
- Sorry Becka, but she’s not lying.
- Daisy is 100% June’s daughter and you will never convince me otherwise. I don’t care.
- That was unexpected. Holy Shit! GO BECKA!
- Not one bit of remorse. Becka, you an absolute BADDIE.
- BETRAYAL! AGNES NOOOOOO!
- Agnes- You are not a girl’s girl. I’m disappointed in you.
- HANNAH BANKOLE this is not how a daughter of JUNE FUCKING OSBOURNE ACTS!
- Female EYES? Fuuuuuuuck.
- I dig their outfits though.
Episode 9 took a turn. I wonder what’s going to happen in the season finale?
The Testaments Episode 10

Next week is the final episode of season 1, and it was just announced today that The Testaments will return for season 2. It will be interesting to see if they end the season with the current crop of greens getting married, including Daisy. Or will the season end with the fallout of the pedo dentist’s death?
The Testaments episode 10 synopsis reads:
“While Becka faces the consequences of her actions, Agnes and Daisy must decide how far they’re willing to go to protect her.”
I think Agnes has already proven that she’s not going to do shit to protect her friend, but Daisy has more courage. The episode drops on Hulu next Wednesday. I also had some thoughts about the broken plate scene from last week’s episode and the concept of a “perfectly broken woman.”
